i'm pretty sure that comment was satirical. anet has clearly pulled away from skill>time into a direction of more into epeen>fun. in a sense, anet "dictates" the gameplay, not the playerbase.

It has all no use i was going for titles i got 35 on my para then ncsoft banned me.
They see even bots where there are none.
And worst is as a player you have no rights at all the close it and say its final.
So its all a waste of time

I play by myself so unless I am trying to impress my computer...I play for the 'fun' of it---actually I play more for the stress release (beating the bunk outa some charr makes you feel better some days!)
If it feels more like work or such I stop playing.

Regardless of individuals draw to the game, Guild Wars is about accomplishments and recognition for those accomplishments. Anet has shown us that through the examples I gave in my post.

I never claimed that "every single person in this game plays for no other reason but to show off" but merely that it IS what GW is about.

Trying to aruge against that is just plain ignorant

Also as a side note, regardless of whether or not you believed I cheated, I find it very immature and hypocritical that you try to gain e-fame by repetitivly insulting a well known person in GW in various threads here to boost your own e-fame whilst denying that players play for the e-fame at all.

It's an interesting topic that really revolves around basic human psychology.

Some people want a flash car to drive around and show off in, others are happy with a rust bucket as long as it gets them from A to B.

I don't have many goals or aspirations in a game other than to have a good time killing stuff and I also don't want to have to invest huge amounts of time to attain maximum tier power hence why I first bought GW.

In saying there's some great studies around concerning this.I'd recommend checking out Nick Yee's research or hiring a DVD called Second Skin which is highly interesting in this regard.

I play for pure enjoyment. I can't take this game seriously simply b/c I know my account can be banned at any time.
Not to mention I 'lmao' at those who take this game seriously. Specially all those 'hardcore' gamers.

QFT

A lot of MMO's seem to be little more than cleverly disguised work simulators.

actually, i do it out of my own disdain for these individuals. also, when did i say no one plays for epeen? i just said it would be stupid to believe that even the majority play for that reason. Derp. it's extremely ignorant that you believe i do it to boost my efame. but then again, not as if i can expect much intellectually from someone who believes anet shouldn't bother doing anything about botters.

I like to put status players in their place. I've had people come up to my warrior with GWAMM showing and start cycling through armors...then I just start tossing up my 11 sets...then they call me noob so I invite them to my complete HOM where I start cycling through my weapon collection...99.9% this gets them to log off or leave and ignore me. Then there's the people I talk to occasionally who talk about how much money they have, or how they've got some super-secret farming build...the builds I tend to just pick apart just over chat without even seeing them. The only thing I've been regularly trumped on is PVP titles...I have gladiator (1), and that's it. I just don't bother with keeping up with gimmick builds in order to build rank/fame. More power to those who have the patience...I just don't. I enjoy PVE, that's why I bought GW.

Pretty much if someone's spouting off, and what they're claiming isn't impressive, let them know why it's not impressive. Put them in their place. If it only gives them a moment's doubt about their so-called "skills", it's worth it IMO.

I play for fun, for the adventure. I'm a role player. I care more about the evolution of my character and not achievements to showcase. My HoM is all but empty, minus my few mini's, 1 destroyer weapon, and 1 armor set. I don't display any titles under my name. I'm not even close to maxing rep points. I barely have 60K in wealth as I type this. Titles, wealth, and items mean nothing to me here. So I don't bother trying to obtain them as a primary goal. If that's someone else's game, that's fine with me. Just don't expect me to be awe struck.

I log in, resume my stories that myself and a few others have created on our own time, and have a good time doing those things.

I don't care about anything but shiny weps. GW has become a chatroom for me and I find myself sitting there and trolling just staring at my xunlai. Back when almost everything had meaning it was serious. Now you have titles meaning nothing, scrubs, nabs, carebears, some more trolls, powertraders etc. GW is going downhill and I'm just glad I got to meet who I got to meet. Dipped into the moments worth remembering.

Oh, and lol @ people thinking they are better then you depending on HA rank. They need a reality check.

I play for fun. I have no interest in the whole e-peen thing and would rather walk through the world, soaking up the lore.

Also, most of the titles are crap, in my honest opinion. once you get beyond Protector, Guardian, Vanq, Cart and Mastery of the North, most of the rest is pretty much just about who has the most money to consume things or just going out and killing things over again.

But that is just my opinion

Yeah but the titles you just listed add up to 16, and since to get those you have to VQ all areas and do all dungeons in both NM and HM as well as GW:EN primaries in NM and HM, you'll be close to ALL of the rep titles, including LB, SS, Vanguard, Asura, Norn, and Delver, totaling 22 titles. Yeah, the 6 rep titles require a tiny bit of extra effort, but if you're aware of books while you're playing, they won't take long. I've more than doubled my SS title because I didn't VQ until after I farmed it to max, so clearly I didn't really need to farm it hardly at all. What's left for r5 KoaBD is Leg Skill Hunter, which actually has some in-game benefit and is one of the shorter titles to obtain.

In other words, when you say "most titles are crap" and then list the titles you just did, it's entirely contradictory. All that's left is to grind consumable titles and your choice of account-wides, but most people think you max your HoM for highest benefit at r5 with a full hall, which, again, is easy by just playing normally.

And within that lies my opinion. If you play the game fairly normally but keep wanting a challenge and not just to steamroll the early areas over and over, you'll obtain a vast number of titles and decent wealth by just doing what you do. If you use GW as a social networking game and just want to play areas you're familiar with or have done before, then sure, you won't get titles. But most people want to progress in the game anyway, and for the most part, titles are pretty well bundled into game progression.

Definitely for fun. When it's no longer fun, I stop playing for a month or two.

If I cared about status, my main wouldn't still be wearing non-elite Cabal armour ...

Fun is the only reason for playing a game.
What is fun for each individual varies, obviously,
but for me a lot of the fun in guild wars died the once Anet abandoned their stance on anti-grind and instead started promoting it.
Everything that I used to enjoy (especially in PvP) went downhill as soon as titles were introduced in the game. Speedclears in FoW and UW has made it pretty much impossible to get a normal pug team going. Overpowered gimmicks and general faceroll templates has dumbed the game down so much, which has also taken away a lot of fun from it.

I play for fun, but you could say I'm serious about it.
Ever since Nightfall (2006) I have been play exclusively 'old school' mode.
I started playing GW in May 2005 and I'm still in 2005 in a lot of ways.
Sure, I am gimping myself, but I am having fun meanwhile and I have never cared about armor/gold or any kind of title. Despite having some pretty good PvP ranks you will never ever see me display them and I've never grinded a title, just kept playing what I think of as fun.

Played for nearly 5 years. Got no maxed titles, only 2 elite armors, no torment weapons, chaos gloves or similar and a handful of gold. I do enjoy the game and I never felt the need to try get all that. I do enjoy good FoW runs (as in 60 minutes relaxed parties, not speed clears) just as much as I did 4-5 years ago.
